Breakfast In The Covid Era
Over the last two months, we’ve started doing a bit of traveling again. And while it’s nothing like earlier this year, we have had a few Hyatt stays. Here’s what we’ve found in terms of what hotels and resorts are doing for Privé and globalist breakfast.
Andaz Scottsdale
We went to Andaz Scottsdale in June. And honestly, not much had changed. The first two days of our stay, Werf and Werp (the resort’s only restaurant) was still closed and breakfast was served outside at the pool bar. The breakfast menu was fairly basic with options consisting of a breakfast burrito, pancakes or eggs, bacon and hash browns. Nonetheless, even the pool side basic breakfast was good. And we appreciated that they were at least offering an option.
The last two days of our stay, Weft and Werp reopened with their normal breakfast menu. And honestly, other than some increased sanitation practices, it felt like the usual breakfast we had become accustomed to over the years at the Andaz Scottsdale.
Hyatt Regency Austin
We spent a couple nights at the Hyatt Regency Austin in late June. The hotel was operating with a skeleton staff, but we still appreciated the fact that they were offering to-go breakfast with a fairly normal menu. We tried their breakfast tacos and scrambled eggs with bacon and hash browns and both meals were quite good. It’s served in to go containers and you pick up breakfast from the front desk. It’s served with pre-bottled juice. The hotel also gave us the option of having breakfast from the Starbucks in the hotel, which was open, but we chose to do the take-out option from the hotel’s breakfast menu.
Thompson Nashville
Over the 4th of July, we spent several nights at the Thompson Nashville. Their main breakfast restaurant, Marsh House, has still not reopened. So breakfast was available via room service (a limited menu) or we were given the option of having breakfast from the coffee shop within the hotel, Killebrew. We did both. The first morning, we went to Killebrew and had breakfast sandwiches and lattes. Both were excellent.
The second morning, we did in-room dining and had scrambled eggs, toast and bacon. And the breakfast was served with coffee and bottled juice. The breakfast was honestly, just okay. It was nothing to write home about, but it was adequate.
he one thing we did express some frustration over was that they charged a delivery fee, which is a bit ironic, since really in-room dining is the only true way to get a full breakfast. They removed the delivery charges and management said they would review that policy.
