Our Opinion: Hyatt Needs a better footprint in…

1. Vancouver, BC: Sure, there’s the Hyatt Regency Vancouver. But Vancouver is a city of luxury hotels. And it’s the second largest city in Canada. So one large conference type hotel is a little weak. Vancouver truly needs a luxury Hyatt hotel, a Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Thompson or Andaz. With Hyatt’s recent focus on growing their presence in Canada, we’re hopeful Vancouver will get the luxury Hyatt hotel it deserves.

2. Los Angeles: Right now, options are limited in Los Angeles in terms of full-service hotels. The Andaz West Hollywood is the only real option. But there are several hotels under construction including the Park Hyatt Los Angeles at Oceanwide Plaza, Thompson Hollywood and an Unbound Collection hotel in Hollywood. But even with these additions, the second largest city in the United States deserves a better Hyatt footprint. We would love to see a Hyatt Hotel in Beverly Hills and one in Santa Monica. Hopefully Hyatt will continue their Los Angeles Expansion.

3. Brisbane, Australia: Hyatt has a Hyatt Place in the pipeline for Brisbane. And sure, that’s an improvement. But it’ll be the first and only Hyatt hotel in the third largest city in Australia. As Brisbane continues to grow and become more of a tourist destination, Hyatt needs a luxury or full-service hotel in Brisbane’s CBD. Brisbane is a vibrant and fun city, so maybe an Andaz or Hyatt Centric? Any addition would be welcomed.

4. Cape Town, South Africa: Hyatt desperately needs some type of presence in Cape Town. With no hotels in South Africa, Hyatt is well behind Marriott, Hilton and even Radisson.

5. Indianapolis, Indiana: This is a bit of a selfish reason, but we spend a lot of time in Indianapolis visiting family. And new hotels are being announced all across Indianapolis including a new Kimpton, Signia by Hilton and Intercontinental Hotel. Yet Hyatt has only one full-service hotel and it’s an aging Hyatt Regency. We stayed there once, and it was just okay. It definitely needs a renovation and is very much a conference type hotel. Indianapolis is perfect for a Hyatt Centric or Grand Hyatt. We can only hope.
